Your Tasks

BakerHicks is expanding its power team to mainland Europe, and we're looking for an ambitious high voltage engineer to lead the development of a new team in Belgium. Do you have specialist knowledge in HV cables, Overhead lines, or Substations, and experience working on Transmission Networks in Belgium or Netherlands? If so, we want you to join us!  

As the lead engineer for new projects, you'll identify resource requirements, participate in building a new team, and work closely with design teams in the UK to ensure compliance with local standards. You'll also have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across Europe and the UK, while occasionally traveling to our offices in London and aaround Belgium and the Netherlands.  

The ideal candidate will have leadership experience or be looking to take the next step in their career. You must have full working proficiency in English and either French or Dutch, as well as specialist knowledge in one of the following areas: HV cable design, Overhead line design, or Substation Primary design.

Key Objectives:

  • Support in business development activities (Tendering, Client presentations, developing technical capabilities of team) 
  • Act as lead engineer for new projects. 
  • Identify resource requirements and participate in building a new team 
  • Work closely with design teams in the UK, ensuring designs are provided in compliance with local standards. 

Your Profile

The candidate will be closely supported by the highly experienced team in the UK, as well as the existing BakerHicks teams in Europe who work in other sectors.  

The candidate must have experience in the production of or management of designs, calculations, report and drawings for HV power transmission systems, HVDC interconnectors, or  HV renewable energy infrastructure, in Belgium or the Netherlands. 

The candidate must have full working proficiency in English and either French or Dutch.   

The candidate must have specialist knowledge in one of the following areas; HV cable design, Overhead line design, Substation Primary design.  

The role will involve occasional travel to BakerHicks offices in London and may involve travel around the Belgium & the Netherlands depending on client requirements.  

While developing new workstreams, there will be the opportunity to work with existing client and on existing projects in the UK.  

An existing network of client contacts in the region is a bonus, but not critical. 

The candidate will support in building a team, by taking part in review of CVs and interviews. 

Traveling activity

The duration of our projects is usually between 6 and 24 months. Depending on the project and the project phase, the work location is mainly the project location at the customer, although mobile working from home is sometimes possible in consultation with the project management. At BakerHicks you have the opportunity to work with different customers and different technologies. You get to know new cities and are still always at home on weekends.
